I kid you not, yesterday we installed a sump pump in the pond. After trying to run a hose with warm water from the house, installing a cattle submergable water heater into the opening, we realized we were not going to win this battle easily. So we dragged the paddle boat over the frozen pond to the opening from the aerator, put the sump pump in a garbage can, tied it to the boat and the Swan's pen fencing and turned it on. This pic is day two and it seems to be doing its job. What a huge relief. Shocking how fast and thick this ice has gotten after this crazy cold holiday week.
